Well, the unemployment has run out. Still no job. That is certainly not for the lack of trying.
Once a person reaches over the age of 50 and 60 they are no longer considered by companies. That is just so sad. A person over 50 and 60 bring with them skill sets that can't be taught in college. They can only be taught through life. We are not hungry for big salaries. We are hungry for work and a paycheck that will keep us out of poverty. We have loyalty and a work ethic that will keep us there until we die.
Retirement? What is that? Health concerns? Most of us are far healthier than the young people out there today. We exercise, we eat right and we have a happy attitude that all keeps us young and vibrant.
Yes, maybe 40 years ago our age was "old" and ready for the pasture, but not this generation. We thrive on work and life. We lived through Vietnam and Woodstock and incredible changes in our world.
Another issue is I think employers are afraid to hire the "new 40s" giving them bosses who are younger. That is so totally ridiculous. We have as much to learn from them as they do from us.
Maybe a day will come when we are seen for the value we are and not for someone with one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel.
Ok! I am off my soap box and headed to play a little with my children in FaceBook. No, you wont see my FaceBook if you are a potential employer. That is my territory to be myself without hesitation and enjoy my children and friends.
